If you decide to go during July and August, you will enjoy the hottest months of the year, with plenty of long, sunny days. There are also many events during these months, such as the Shakespeare Summer Festivities (performed at Prague Castle) and the Festival of Italian Operas.
Autumn is also a great time to visit Prague. The days are usually still filled with sunshine, and although it does get colder towards the end of the season it is the driest time of the year. Big events take place at this time, such as the Vinohrady Grape Festival, celebrating the country’s fine grape harvest with traditional music and wine, and the International Jazz Festival.
The winters in Prague can get very cold, with the average temperature in December and January being 5oC. However there is a fantastic atmosphere in the city during this time, with less tourists and snow often providing spectacular views. Wrap up warm and head to one of the many events happening during this season, for example the Christmas market in the Old Town Square, the New Years Eve fireworks lighting up Prague Castle and the Prague Winter Festival, a spectacle of opera, ballet and classical music.
